This is not a sea glass necklace. This is a sculpture, worn around the neck.
The focal pendant is a teardrop of crystal glass, carved and cut entirely by hand. Its surface has been given a delicate treatment to replicate the exact texture of sea glass found on shores that frosted, worn softness that only comes from years of contact with salt water and sand.
Except this piece did not spend years on a beach. It spent weeks in the hands of a glassmaker.
Crystal glass is not ordinary glass. It contains metallic oxides, up to 40% of its mass, which increase its refractive index and make it denser, more brilliant, and richer in sound. The blue you see in the photographs is the primary color, but every drop is slightly different. No two pieces catch the light the same way.
Three Tahitian cultured pearls, 9 to 10mm, grade B/C, from silver to dark tones, are knotted along the kangaroo leather cord. Their luminescence complements the matte surface of the glass without competing with it. The result is a composition that reads as both ancient and completely contemporary.
